The Marjory Gordon Program: A Legacy of Nursing Knowledge
Founded in 2016, the Marjory Gordon Program for Knowledge Development, Clinical Reasoning, and Standardized Nursing Language was created through a partnership between NANDA International and the Boston College Connell School of Nursing. Designed to honor the legacy of Dr. Marjory Gordon, the program focuses on expanding the NANDA archives, increasing scholarly publications, and supporting global educational initiatives.
Under the direction of Dr. Dorothy Jones, Professor Emerita, the program has become an international hub of nursing scholarship, mentoring NANDA Scholars across continents.
Introducing the Next Chapter: A Dual Appointment for Dr. Natalie Borg
NANDA International and Boston College are pleased to announce the promotion of Dr. Natalie Borg to Assistant Director of the Marjory Gordon Program for Knowledge Development, Clinical Reasoning, and Standardized Nursing Language at the Connell School of Nursing, a role intentionally designed as a 50/50 appointment between the Marjory Gordon Program and NANDA International.
In this dual role, Dr. Borg will:
- Continue her Gordon Program work under the direction of Dr. Jones, including stewardship of the NANDA Archives and support for the Gordon Scholars community.
- Contribute 50% of her time to NANDA International, under the direction of Dr. Heather Herdman, where she will contribute to the Education Committee and help develop and expand NANDA 360 educational programming, and to develop the framework for NANDA International University Collaborating Sites around the globe.
Her expertise in higher education, curriculum design, instructional development, and scholarly communication makes her uniquely positioned to bridge programming between the Gordon legacy and NANDA-I’s global educational needs.
Academic and Professional Excellence
Dr. Borg earned her Ph.D. in Higher Education from Boston College in 2024. Her dissertation, recognized as a semi-finalist for Dissertation of the Year by the American Education Research Association (AERA), explored the lived experiences of professionals supporting undocumented students.
She also earned a Certificate in Teaching Excellence, taught and assisted across 36 credit hours of undergraduate and graduate courses, and has professional experience as an academic editor, writing tutor, researcher, and student affairs professional. Her background reflects deep expertise in how learning is designed, delivered, and sustained, an ideal foundation for advancing NANDA-I’s educational mission.
Recognition and Global Collaboration
Since joining the program in 2023, Dr. Borg has worked closely with Dr. Jones, Dr. Heather Herdman, the Gordon Scholars, and the NANDA-I Board of Directors. In 2025, she received NANDA-I’s Unique Contribution Award for “Creating a Welcoming Environment for Global Scholars.”
“Natalie’s enthusiasm for the Gordon Program, and her contributions over the past years, has led to this opportunity for her to continue to enrich that Program and now to increase her focus on NANDA International, as well. Her background in higher education will provide us with unique support as we launch NANDA 360 and embark on a journey to reshape nursing education related to standardized nursing terminology.” – Dr. Heather Herdman, CEO of NANDA-I
Looking Forward: Advancing the Gordon Program and NANDA 360
As NANDA International launches NANDA 360, Dr. Borg’s leadership will be central to shaping modern, accessible educational pathways for nurses around the world. Her dual appointment ensures strong alignment between the Gordon Program’s scholarly mission and NANDA-I’s evolving global education strategy.
Dr. Borg’s appointment represents both a continuation of the Gordon legacy and a bold step forward in expanding NANDA-I’s global reach, supporting nurses, educators, and scholars worldwide.
