Advancing Nursing Knowledge Through Education
The Institute of Nursing Knowledge is the educational arm of INKA (formerly NANDA® International), dedicated to advancing nursing knowledge and strengthening clinical reasoning across practice, education, research, and digital health environments.
The Institute brings together educational programs, courses, and learning experiences that support the development and application of assessment-driven, diagnosis-centered nursing knowledge. Through this work, the Institute helps ensure that the knowledge underlying nursing practice is clearly defined, consistently applied, and effectively integrated into healthcare systems worldwide.
Why Education Matters
Nursing knowledge doesn’t advance through research and classification development alone. It must also be understood, taught, and applied in practice.
Across healthcare environments, nurses are expected to assess complex patient situations, make clinical judgments, and deliver care that is both individualized and evidence-informed. However, without structured preparation, the knowledge that supports these decisions can be applied inconsistently, limiting its impact on patient care, education, and research.
Education is therefore essential to:
- Strengthening clinical reasoning and diagnostic judgment
- Supporting consistent use of nursing knowledge in practice
- Enabling meaningful documentation and communication of care
- Preparing nurses to work effectively within digital and data-driven health systems
The Institute of Nursing Knowledge exists to support this work.
