Overview

The NANDA 360 Institute is the educational arm of NANDA 360, and is categorized within the Institute of Nursing Knowledge.

NANDA 360 is an expanded classification and clinical reasoning framework designed to integrate nursing knowledge across the full nursing process through an assessment-driven, diagnosis-centered knowledge base that supports evidence-based clinical reasoning and informed patient care.

It was established by the International Nursing Knowledge Association (INKA), formerly NANDA® International, to ensure that the expanded classification and clinical reasoning framework is applied with rigor, coherence, and confidence across clinical practice, education, research, informatics, and policy.

Purpose

The purpose of the NANDA 360 Institute is to:

  • Prepare nurses and other stakeholders to apply the full nursing process using an assessment-driven, diagnosis-centered framework
  • Support educators and students in classrooms, simulation environments and clinical assignments with application of clinical reasoning within the nursing process
  • Strengthen diagnostic reasoning and clinical judgment
  • Support accurate integration of patient goals and outcomes, and nursing actions
  • Promote consistent use of standardized nursing language within diverse health systems
  • Provide structured preparation for responsible implementation

NANDA 360 can only achieve its intended impact when nurses are prepared to use it. Education is foundational to implementation.

Foundational Program

The Institute launches with an intensive foundational program.

Participants develop the competence to understand, apply, and operationalize the NANDA 360 approach in ways that make nursing knowledge, clinical reasoning, and the impact of nursing care visible across practice, education, research, and health systems.

Learning methods may include interactive lectures, applied workshops, case-based reasoning, and simulation.

The program reflects the integrated structure of NANDA 360: expanded classification and clinical reasoning operating together within one coherent framework.

Educational Scope

The Institute supports application of NANDA 360 across:

  • Clinical Practice — strengthening assessment-driven, diagnosis-centered reasoning
  • Education & Curriculum — integrating the framework into teaching and simulation
  • Research — supporting structured, retrievable, and comparable nursing data
  • Informatics — preparing leaders for responsible digital implementation
  • Policy — strengthening visibility of nursing knowledge through structured data

Within informatics and academic literature, structured nursing classifications such as NANDA 360 are commonly described as part of standardized nursing language (SNL) . The Institute supports accurate and responsible application within this broader ecosystem.

Global Development

The inaugural program will be hosted in Rome, Italy, where INKA’s second academic partnership is located – formed through a partnership agreement between INKA and OPI-Rome.

Following this launch, the Institute will expand internationally through regional sites aligned with INKA membership, translation partners, and implementation leaders.

This phased model supports:

  • Consistency in curriculum and pedagogy
  • Cultural and contextual relevance
  • Development of regional trainers
  • Global dissemination of diagnosis-centered standardized nursing language

Education is central to the successful introduction of NANDA 360. Rather than releasing a new integrated nursing knowledge base without preparation, INKA is taking a phased approach that will prepare nursing leaders, educators, healthcare organizations, and researchers for its anticipated 2027 release.

The NANDA 360 Institute will serve as the primary educational resource for understanding, implementing, teaching, and advancing NANDA 360. The roadmap below outlines how education will expand over the coming years.

What to Expect

2026: Building Global Leadership

The inaugural NANDA 360 Institute will bring together an invited group of nursing leaders in health policy, administration, education, research, and international leadership.

Participants will explore the rationale behind NANDA 360, examine its potential to strengthen nursing’s visibility and impact across healthcare systems, and help build a shared understanding of the integrated nursing knowledge base before its release.

This inaugural Institute represents the first phase of a broader global educational initiative.

2026–2027: Preparing the Profession

As development of NANDA 360 continues, the Institute will expand its educational offerings to prepare the nursing profession for implementation.

During this phase, INKA will develop:

  • Online courses
  • Educational resources
  • Implementation guidance
  • Additional Institute programs for educators, healthcare organizations, and other stakeholder groups

These resources are intended to build a common understanding of NANDA 360 before its anticipated release.

2027: Launching NANDA 360

NANDA 360 is currently in development and is anticipated to become available in 2027.

It will be released in two formats:

  • A licensed, web-based integrated nursing knowledge base
  • An expanded classification, available as both a printed publication and digital access

Education through the NANDA 360 Institute will support organizations, educators, and clinicians as they begin implementing NANDA 360 in practice, education, research, and informatics.

Beyond 2027: Building a Global Faculty Network

As NANDA 360 is introduced internationally, INKA intends to expand education through additional Institutes and a global network of NANDA 360 Institute Faculty.

Through a structured train-the-trainer pathway, experienced educators will receive advanced preparation in NANDA 360 and become recognized Institute Faculty, prepared to provide authoritative education within their regions and native languages.

This approach helps ensure that NANDA 360 is taught consistently, accurately, and in alignment with its evidence base and intended application while supporting global collaboration and regional leadership.

Role Within INKA

The NANDA 360 Institute serves as the educational infrastructure supporting the expanded classification and clinical reasoning framework.

It reinforces that:

  • A comprehensive assessment using a nursing framework drives the entire nursing process
  • Nursing diagnosis remains central to an individualized plan of care.
  • Clinical reasoning remains foundational.
  • Standardized nursing language requires structured preparation for meaningful use.
  • Implementation depends on education, not publication alone.

Through the Institute, INKA ensures that the evolution of nursing knowledge is matched by deliberate, competency-based preparation of the global workforce.
