Introducing the New INKA Logo

NANDA ® International, Inc. will begin operating publicly under the name International Nursing Knowledge Association (INKA) once our new website launches in Q2 of 2026. In preparation for this transition, we are introducing a new visual identity: our new INKA logo.

This updated logo reflects the scope of INKA’s work and its continued development of diagnosis-centered nursing knowledge.

The Swallow as Symbol

At the center of the design is a swallow in ascent.

Across cultures, swallows are associated with freedom, resilience, hope, and safe return. Their long migrations and their reliable return each year have made them enduring symbols of renewal, continuity, and sustained commitment.

Swallows are also known for agility and precision in motion. Their movement is purposeful rather than ornamental, guided by instinct, strength, and orientation.

These qualities parallel INKA’s direction.

Like the swallow, INKA operates globally and remains grounded in continuity. Its work advances across countries, languages, and care environments while maintaining a consistent intellectual foundation. The upward angle of the wings reflects disciplined forward movement and sustained advancement.

The symbol aligns with INKA’s commitment to:

  • Represent the voice of professional nursing
  • Strengthen clinical reasoning worldwide
  • Power the Voice and Autonomy of Nurses
  • Proactively elevate the standard of global healthcare

The swallow conveys motion with orientation; progress anchored in structure.

Color and Typography

While the swallow represents motion, the typography represents foundation.

The bold, open letterforms were designed to communicate stability, clarity, and confidence. They reflect INKA’s role as a structured and trusted foundation for advancing nursing knowledge and strengthening professional practice worldwide.

The design intentionally mirrors the function of standardized nursing classifications:

  • Clarity in language
  • Consistency across settings
  • Precision in structure
  • Authority grounded in evidence

Just as standardized nursing language supports accurate communication and disciplined reasoning in patient care, the visual structure of the logo communicates stability and professionalism.

The green tone reinforces this framework. It reflects growth, renewal, and health; concepts inherently connected to nursing practice. It also signals balance and forward progress, aligning with INKA’s commitment to continuous improvement, global connection, and the elevation of patient care outcomes.

Together, the elements of the logo express our association’s core commitments:

We Lead Forward — continuously improving, evolving, and elevating nursing knowledge

We Connect — building global community and strengthening the professional voice of nurses

We Care — supporting and valuing the professionals who advance healthcare each day

The visual identity reflects these commitments in structured form.

Rooted in care. Grounded in knowledge. Committed to connection. Leading forward.

Organizational Identity

The transition to the name INKA, which will happen later this year, clarifies our organizational scope.

  • NANDA refers to the NANDA-I Nursing Diagnosis Classification.
  • NANDA 360 refers to the expanded, diagnosis-centered integrated classifications and clinical reasoning framework.
  • INKA refers to the professional nursing association responsible for governance, development, refinement, and dissemination of these classifications.

This distinction strengthens clarity between the association and the intellectual property we steward.

In the interim, NANDA International, Inc. remains the legal entity and continues its mission of advancing nursing knowledge through education, scholarship, research, collaboration, and professional engagement.

We Lead Forward

Ongoing refinement of nursing classifications and advancement of diagnosis-centered reasoning.

We Connect

International collaboration among clinicians, educators, researchers, and informatics leaders.

We Care

Support for the professional integrity and intellectual contribution of nurses in all practice settings.

These commitments continue to guide the development of the NANDA Nursing Diagnosis Classification, NANDA 360, educational initiatives, publications, and global engagement.

Implementation Timeline

The new name and logo will begin to be officially used with the launch of the updated website in Q2 2026.

These visual changes reflect organizational alignment, while the foundational work remains the same: disciplined evidence-based development of nursing classifications that support accurate diagnosis, structured reasoning, and improved patient care.
