NANDA International’s “Nursing Diagnoses: Definitions and Classification” text is the definitive guide to nursing diagnoses, as reviewed and approved by the NANDA International (NANDA-I) Diagnosis Development Committee (DDC).
With the successful publication of this book in English and several other languages, we are already planning the next edition! Our focus is on expanding key areas within the classification, seeking to address what we view as missed opportunities.
During a recent discussion with the NANDA-I Network Group in Portugal, Dr. Herdman, our CEO, learned about several areas that are ripe for expansion. One example is military nursing, addressing situations when nurses encounter unique challenges in war zones involving both civilians and military personnel. There is also significant potential for growth in pediatrics, climate change concerns, mental health, and community nursing.
We have already initiated task forces to explore climate change and community nursing, but we are yet to form dedicated groups for military nursing, pediatrics, and mental health. These areas present valuable opportunities to enhance our understanding and address the complex needs associated with each specialty.
We invite experts and passionate individuals to contribute to these areas of specialization. If you are interested in joining our efforts to develop these classifications further, please reach out to Dr. Camila Takao Lopez, Chair of the Diagnosis Development Committee, at di*******@***da.org.
Your involvement can make a meaningful impact, helping us broaden the scope and applicability of nursing classifications. Collaborating on these evolving fields will ensure that our classifications remain relevant and comprehensive in addressing today’s diverse healthcare challenges.
