Friends of the National Library of Medicine (FNLM) Webinar – Unleashing the Power of Nursing Terminology with AI
The Friends of the National Library of Medicine (FNLM) hold relatively regular and hi-tech webinars among the standardized language groups/organizations with a focus on interoperability. Dr. Kathleen McCormick is the organizing force behind this work. Drs Heather Herdman and Maria Müeller-Staub represented NANDA-I within the past year at one of the webinars. Information on the next follows. You are invited. Global attendees and memberships are welcome.

For this December 4, 2024, webinar, Dr. Tamara Macieira of the College of Nursing, University of Florida will be speaking on NIC/NOC, NANDA, and AI. As you are aware, the University of Florida, thanks to the leadership of Drs. Gail Keenan, Tamara Macieira, and their faculty teams, is a global leader in nursing diagnoses and its related technology.
It is very possible that a high-tech university e.g., University of Florida College of Nursing, is in a prime position to establish a Global Standardized Language Interoperability Network, which would move forward the field of interoperability even as it preserves the identity of the various nursing classifications. To gauge interest in such a network, contact Dr. Macieira by email at tmacie2@ufl.edu if you or your university is interested.
NANDA-I representation within FNLM is important, most especially among 1.) Interoperability, database extraction, clinical informatics, AI/ML/LLM national and global experts; 2.) those interested in learning more about these topics; and 3.) those interested in communicating with a community of experts across standardized languages.
Membership in FNLM varies as do the membership fees.
- Three ways to donate, including becoming a member (https://www.fnlm.org/donate/)
- Three levels of individual membership. Note that more expensive membership fees entitle members to a greater role within the FNLM. Perhaps universities could cover membership costs, or an outcome-oriented university grant could be written to cover the cost of more expensive and more powerful memberships. Access: https://www.fnlm.org/product/individual-membership/.
- Organizational membership. Access: https://www.fnlm.org/product/organizational-membership/. Scroll down this site (https://www.fnlm.org/our-members/) to see the list of university members.
Membership in HL7 is equally important. A special thanks here to former NANDA President Dr. Kay Avant for her longstanding contributions to HL7.
Thanks for accessing – feel most free to share with all, other NANDA-I members, clinicians, colleagues, school/college of nursing mailing lists, etc.
