Strategic Plan Responsibilities

Oversee Bylaws Revisions

  • Membership will have a comment period on proposed bylaws
  • Committee will then collate comments and provide any revisions felt necessary to the proposed bylaws, which will then be presented to the membership for voting during the 2018-2019 fiscal year

Proposed Bylaws Changes

NANDA-I has been undergoing a transition from a “stand alone” international membership association to that of an international association with an academic center partner: The Marjory Gordon, Ph.D., R.N., FAAN Program for Clinical Reasoning and Knowledge Development at Boston College. This partnership provides a home base for the association, with a focus on research for development and refinement of nursing diagnoses, and educational methods to support clinical integration of the terminology into practice. More broadly, the Gordon Program enables a focus on development of nursing knowledge and clinical reasoning; nursing diagnoses represent the outcomes of clinical reasoning, and provide standardized terms for nursing knowledge concepts.

This partnership provides NANDA-I with access to skills and services that the Association did not have available on its own. As such, the bylaws of the Association now require revision to reflect the changes that this Partnership with Boston College affords us.

The bylaws are available now for you to review, but are considered to be officially posted on January 1, 2019 – and will remain available for review and comment for a six month period, ending June 30, 2019. At the end of this review period, the Chair of the NANDA-I Bylaws Committee, Dr. Pauline Green (bylaws@nanda.org) will prepare a report to the Board of Directors outlining any recommendations received, with recommendations from the Bylaws Committee in terms of any necessary actions provided to the Board no later than August 15, 2019. Any revisions will be reviewed and, if approved by the Board of Directors, they will be made. At that time, a vote will be called for of all NANDA-I members to approve the new bylaws (with any revisions clearly identified) no later than August 31. A simple majority vote is needed to approve these bylaws, and voting will remain open for a period of 30 days. All voting will occur online, with votes tabulated by the Bylaws Committee chair, Dr. Pauline Green. Results will be provided to the Board of Directors no later than September 30, 2019; the membership will be notified of the outcome of the vote no later than October 31, 2019.

Only NANDA-I members are able to comment on or vote on the Bylaws. All comments or recommendations for revision should be sent directly to the Chair of the Bylaws Committee, Dr. Pauline Green, at: bylaws@nanda.org

In order to preserve the autonomy of the Bylaws Committee, we ask that you do not copy your comments to any member of the Board of Directors, nor to the CEO of NANDA-I.
