Celebrating Our Founders & Our Award Recipients

July 19, 2023

The recent NANDA-I Conference not only marked a significant milestone in our organization’s history – its 50th anniversary – but also provided an opportunity to pay tribute to our founders and acknowledge exceptional individuals who have made substantial contributions to nursing diagnoses.

Celebrating Our Founders

During the event, we honored our visionary founders – Drs. Kristine Gebbie and Mary Ann Lavin. In recognition of their extraordinary accomplishments, we decided to rename our Founder’s Award to the “Dr. Kristine Gebbie and Dr. Mary Ann Lavin Founder’s Award.” This accolade serves as a testament to the lasting impact they have made on education, implementation, development, research, and informatics applications of nursing diagnoses.

Recipients of the NANDA-I Founder’s Award

This year, we were privileged to present the Dr. Kristine Gebbie and Dr. Mary Ann Lavin Founder’s Award to two exceptionally deserving individuals.

The first recipient, Dr. Emilia Campos de Carvalho from Riberão Preto, Brazil, has dedicated her career to diagnosis development, education, and research. Dr. Shigemi Kamitsuru from Tokyo, Japan, our second esteemed recipient, has also distinguished herself through years of outstanding work in diagnosis development, education, and research.

In recognition of their accomplishments, we will be featuring both Dr. Emilia Campos de Carvalho and Dr. Shigemi Kamitsuru on our website, very soon. Their valuable contributions and unwavering commitment to advancing nursing diagnoses have played a pivotal role in transforming the healthcare landscape. Their dedication and passion are an inspiration to nursing professionals around the world.

On behalf of the NANDA-I Board of Directors and all its members, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to these two individuals. Their tireless work and significant achievements have created a lasting impact on the field of nursing diagnoses!
