Recognizing Excellence: Awards and Progress in the International Journal of Nursing Knowledge

August 14, 2023

Have you ever read an article from the International Journal of Nursing Knowledge, our official journal? Guided by our diligent editor, Dr. Jane Flanagan, this is our peer-reviewed publication for key professionals committed to discovering, understanding, and disseminating nursing knowledge.

The Journal aims to clarify the knowledge base of nursing and improve patient safety by developing and disseminating nursing diagnoses and standardized nursing languages, and promoting their clinical use. It seeks to encourage education in clinical reasoning, diagnosis, and assessment and ensure global consistency in conceptual languages.

Recently, we celebrated two contributors’ noteworthy achievements at our annual conference.

We were delighted to present the prestigious Editor’s Award to Luca Bertocchi. This award recognizes outstanding contributions to the advancement of the journal. Lucas’s contributions have certainly contributed to the journal’s quality and significance.

We also presented the Rosemary Carroll Johnson Award, recognizing the finest paper published in the past two-year cycle, to Rita Desia Gengo Silva Butcher, Ph.D., and Dorothy A. Jones, EdD. Their paper – an integrative review of comprehensive nursing assessment tools developed based on Gordon’s 11 functional health patterns – has set a benchmark in clinical knowledge.

The driving force behind the progress of our journal is Dr. Flanagan. As our editor, she has guided our journal from a print-only platform to a fully online journal. Additionally, she was instrumental in the implementation of a hybrid model of open-access and non-open-access articles, enhancing accessibility and inclusivity for our readers.

Because of Dr. Flanagan’s dedication, we’ve seen a steady increase in the diversity of authors, along with the quantity and quality of articles received, accepted, and published. Furthermore, our impact factor has consistently risen, signifying a considerable expansion of our journal’s significance and influence globally.  We owe a huge debt of gratitude to Dr. Flanagan for all of her work.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Flanagan for her unwavering commitment to the Journal. Join us in also congratulating our award winners and all of our contributors, reviewers, and members of the Editorial Board, who tirelessly seek to advance the nursing field and raise the bar in nursing knowledge and practice!
