She joined the faculty of SIUE in 2004, after her time teaching at Saint Louis University. Anne was a professor emerita from the School of Nursing at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE). Dr. Perry was a distinguished nurse and served the School of Nursing for many years as a faculty member, chair, and Interim Dean.

Author of “Fundamentals of Nursing”

Anne was probably best known for her landmark textbook, authored with her colleague, Patricia Potter, Ph.D.: Fundamentals of Nursing, which has been translated into several languages. It is the most used textbook in nursing education. Together they co-authored seven internationally acclaimed nursing textbooks with translations in 11 languages.

Awards and Accolades

Dr. Perry’s numerous awards included the Missouri Nurses Association Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003, the NANDA International Mentor Award in 2012, the Saint Louis University School of Nursing Alumni Merit Award in 2016, and the March of Dimes Legends in Nursing Award in 2016. Within NANDA-I, Anne served on numerous committees and the Board of Directors, including as Secretary/Treasurer of the Board. She was a wonderful colleague, with a delightful sense of humor who could light up a room. She was always willing to go the extra mile, to mentor less experienced members, and to find consensus. She will be missed by her family, colleagues, friends, and students.
